2015 Flashback 6: The Beach
2015 Flashback 6: The BeachThursday 31st December 2015
The humble flagship Café Môr had a facelift ahead of its third season at Freshwater West. As always the mobile catering trailer was open from Good Friday at Easter to the last day of September and this time the wagon was almost entirely off grid! We were thrilled by the success of the wind turbine and solar panels we had fitted to fuel the fridges and freezers on board. Thanks to the Sustainable Development Fund authorised by the National Park for funding this exciting project.
According to NCASS (National Catering Association) Café Môr was the second mobile catering unit in the UK to be powered by renewable wind and solar energy. (The first was in Pembrokeshire too, Eat Street, trading on the Honeyborough roundabout in Neyland.)
In 2015 the weather was fine and the local community at Freshwater West and the hundreds of visitors who came to tread the coastal path or admire the vast sandy beach made this season as friendly and charming as ever. We released an exclusive t-shirt design to celebrate the summer of 2015 at Freshwater West, this was designed and screen printed by Anna at I Sea Surfwear and half of profits will go to The Marine Conservation Society once the year is out. We still have some available on our online shop. Our promotion which means you get a free hot drink or ice cream for every bag of litter collected off of the beach (in association with Keep Wales Tidy) continued to be success and will go on for another year too!
